New views of Medellín, 2007
Thinking on the current urban development of my home city and with the intention of giving a response to it, this project started with a journey across different areas of the city in search of images of new buildings that offered new sights of the town. The result was a vast series of photographs captured from all the flats of different buildings exposing the views from each window and balcony to be installed in exhibition spaces recreating the architectural structure itself New Views of Medellín, 2007 and one intervention conceived for a specific location in the public realm, Viewer 2007.
Viewer is an urban intervention which took place in a residential building located in an area near downtown Medellín. The work had on the name of the building: Mirador (Viewer) its point of departure and had the purpose to underscore the fact that such a name is a marketing strategy that urbanizers wisely use to sell flats. So it was about covering the entire windows of the building’s facade with translucent prints featuring the view of each flat from inside to outside, allowing for passersby to access the private sight from the interiors both during the day and night, as the prints were translucent and may worked out with the interior lights.
