Studies on the malleability of space, 2017 |
The series Studies on the malleability of space, emerge from applying mathematical operations into drawing. By using logarithmic sequences as basis to draw on glass fiber meshes of different sizes (mosquito nets) on one hand, and large high density polyethylene meshes on the other, the process consists in making systematic and accurate cut-outs on the fabrics following numerical progressions. Despite being invariably formed by squares of orthogonal lines, from a distant view, the size changes of the squares forme curved patterns and shapes that expose the ambivalences between stright and curved lines in perception, and the malleability of space representation that mathematics can bring about.
